An Evening of Elegance, Legacy, and Celebration
On the evening of November 6th, French American Aid for Children (FAAFC) hosted a Fête des Amis dinner at a private members club. This elegant event celebrated friendships, their grantees and the leadership of two of the non-profit organization’s past Presidents, Diane L. Ackerman and Marguerite Mangin. The evening began with a champagne reception, followed by dinner.
Present at the event was Deputy Consul General from France in New York, Myriam Gil , who began the evening by commending French-American friendship and thanking FAAFC for their efforts to help underserved children in France and the United States.
FAAFC Co-Presidents Jeri L. Sape and Wendy C. Weiler introduced the organization’s grantees, followed by speeches by Jeremy Kohomban from The Children’s Village, Hon. Judy Harris Kluger from Sanctuary for Families, Scott Gress from Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club, Lyndsay Kaslow from France Parrainages, and Laure Paret from Tête en l’air. A speech from Pascale Remy of Sports dans la Ville was read in her absence.
Wendy C. Weiler introduced Diane L. Ackerman and spoke about her various accomplishments in the fields of Art and Literature, including receiving the prestigious Ordre National de La Légion d’Honneur. Diane spoke about her time with FAAFC and the joy it has brought to her life. Jeri L. Sape introduced Marguerite Mangin, recounting her scientific and philanthropic accomplishments including helping purify a peptide hormone implicated in bone cancer. In 2010, she was conferred the medal of Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur for her philanthropic and professional activities. Marguerite reminisced about her two terms as President leading the
organization.
